London-based jazz singer Ian Shaw will begin his first Australian tour this month at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival after an invitation from artistic director Barry Humphries.
Shaw has collaborated with artists such as Quincy Jones, Van Morrison and Abdullah Ibrahim, as well as with celebrated vocalist Dee Dee Bridgewater, who appears at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival on Sunday.
Shaw at the piano will perform two shows in Adelaide, singing a mix of standards, originals and individual takes on songs by Joni Mitchell, Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen. These performances will reprise his successful 2012 Edinburgh Festival solo show, A Bit of a Mouthful, while his other Australian appearances will feature Shaw and jazz trio with songs by Cole Porter, Stephen Sondheim and others.
Shaw will perform on June 17 and 18 at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival before dates in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth.
