***** Ian at the 2008 London Jazz Festival *****
After his success at last year's London Jazz Festival, notably his contribution to the opening gala concert and BBC Radio Three broadcast, "We All Love ELLA", the team at Serious have invited Ian to do a special solo concert at the fabulously funky Arts Depot in Finchley on Thursday 20th November. This show will feature original songs from his recent Linn recording "Lifejacket".
On 16th November, featuring David Preston (guitar) and his trio, Barry Green (piano), Ollie Hayhurst (bass) and regular pal, Fletch, on drums, Ian will be at his favourite club date, The 606 Club.
"Old New Borrowed Blue" sees Ian, alongside a host of other artists, in a special concert celebrating the art of song – at the Floral Hall, Covent Garden on Sunday 16th November at 4pm and the Blackheath Halls on 21st November at 7.30pm.

****The download of the track, "Sad Sweet Song" by Humphrey Lyttelton (Splashpoint Records) will be launched at the concert on 21st November at Blackheath Halls. This song was recorded as a tribute to Humph who had requested Ian to sing it. Humph has been a staunch supporter of Ian on his legendary radio show on Radio Two.

This popular pairing continue their Xmastime tradition and perform their annual concert at the Southbank before embarking on their exclusive winter Scottish tour.

**** Shaw returns to Toronto on 18th November to do a solo concert at the Old Mill Inn, presented by Jazz.FM91 as part of their Sound of Jazz Concert series.

**** 2009. Ian is in residence at Soho's Pizza Express Jazz Club, 13th to 18th January. Confirmed guests so far include Cleveland Watkiss, Natalie Williams, Liane Carroll, Claire Martin, Carol Grimes, Guy Barker, Georgia Mancio to name a few collaborators. **** Ian's latest album "Lifejacket" (Linn Records) released in April this year *****
Linn Records (Linn Records) released Shaw's self-penned album, "Lifejacket" in April. A year in the making, this collaboration with guitarist David Preston features twelve original songs, "a suite of stories recalling friendships past and present, childhood dreams and dodgy Soho nights" (Jazzwise March 2008).
The album features guest appearances from Guy Barker, Julian Siegel and a stunning new duet written by Shaw, "42" featuring Liane Carroll.
Shaw showcased this album with three club dates at the legendary Ronnie Scott's and an exclusive concert appearance at the Arts Theatre.
On the 26th June Shaw took the album to Scotland in an exclusive concert at The Tron Theatre as part of the Glasgow International Jazz Festival.

BBC Jazz Awards
. . . Ian won the Best Vocalist category for the second time at the BBC Jazz Awards in 2007. See Ian sing "A Case of You" here

Shaw duets with Liane Carroll
. . . Liane www.lianecarroll.co.uk invited Ian to accompany her on the Rodgers & Hammerstein composition "If I Loved You" for her highly acclaimed new release "Slow Down" (Splash Point Records). Shaw and Carroll (double award winner at the BBC Jazz Awards in 2005) recorded the Carole King classic, "You've Got a Friend" on Liane's previous album; "Standard Issue" on Splash Point.

Shaw can be heard duetting on an original composition on Judith Owen's new album (Linn Records) which also features contributions from Cassandra Wilson and Richard Thompson.

On 17th May, Shaw sang with Abdullah Ibrahim and the BBC Concert orchestra at The Barbican. "Ian Shaw raised the roof with a soul-drenched version of "The Wedding"" (The Guardian). Watch this space for further concert dates.

In August, as part of a special event when the Southbank Centre was transformed into Emerald City and The Wizard Of Oz was staged, Shaw gave two solo performances in The Clore Ballroom to rapturous audiences.

Shaw returned to Germany to perform with The HR Bigband, under the musical guest directorship of friend and collaborator, Guy Barker. He sang the Bacharach/ David show which sold out last year as well as the bigband arrangements of songs from "Lifejacket" specially arranged by Barker.

. . . Shaw recorded a collection of Jörg Achim Keller arranged classics from the Hal David / Burt Bacharach songbook in March last year following a series of successful concerts in Germany in 2006. More news on when this will be released soon.

Other vocal matches made in heaven
. . . as well as Shaw's continuing duet shows with his close friend, Linn recording artist, Claire Martin, Shaw has teamed up with the wondrous Clare Teal for an irreverent romp through popular classics, interlaced with comedy and anecdotes. "A New York Trilogy" (Arlen, Lou Reed and Carole King) features Shaw with celebrated cabaret and blues singer, Barb Jungr.

. . . Ian and L.A. based pop and blues singer-songwriter Marcy Detroit (Eric Clapton, Shakespear’s Sister) have not only done four sell-out shows at Pizza Express Dean Street celebrating Billie Holliday but are collaborating on an exciting new recording project featuring Marcella's original songs (Marcella Detroit).

Ian and Charlotte Church
. . . Ian has produced two beautiful new tracks for the Brit-nominated pop sensation: a haunting re-working of Kate Bush's "The Man with the Child in His Eyes" and the powerful theme tune from Baghdad Cafe, "Calling You". These tracks were recorded at The Cowshed Studio, London (The Cowshed). They are available on Charlotte Church’s CD singles, "Call My Name" and "Mood Swings" on Sony BMG (Sony Music). The Shaw-produced debut album from ace jazz singer, Vince Maiolini was released this summer. The album features the legendary saxophonist, Peter King, as well as pianists, James Pearson and Steve Melling.

"Pierrepoint". . . a British film, now available on DVD
. . . directed by Adrian Shergold, Ian played "Percy" alongside Timothy Spall, Juliet Stevenson and Eddie Marsan in "Pierrepoint" (Granada Films, US title: “The Last Hangman”). It premiered at the Toronto film festival in September 2005. "You're a very good pal of mine", an original Shaw composition is featured in the film.
